While children in the rest of the world go Pokémon crazy, here in Japan the latest fads are always second to established favourites, such as Ultraman. A red-suited, flying but flawed superhero from outer space, Ultraman can withstand just three minutes in the Earth’s atmosphere before he dies. In the 40 or so years he’s been around he’s done battle with just about every manner of evil monster that’s threatened the planet, and he’s also died a few times too, his place being taken by one of a seemingly infinite number of relatives.

DJ Caramelo leads the Latin-American sounds at Jaragua, a club just above then river near Porta San Niccolò. Expect steamy sounds for hot summer nights on a tiny dance floor where you can practise your salsa, merengue and cha-cha. If you don’t know the steps, there is a Latin dance school every night. Cocktails are, of course, south American – Banana Mama, Jaragua, Culo Bello et al. Entrance is free but sadly drinks are not.

Ensconced in the new Aladdin Resort’s Moroccan-themed dining and entertainment extravaganza Desert Passage, Lombardi’s Romagna Mia is but one of several restaurants from which strollers can choose. Lombardi’s serves Italian food with a Tuscan flair in a casual Mediterranean setting. Diners may choose from the usual pastas and salads, but we recommend sharing a variety of the tasty starters like pureed garbanzo bean soup, buffala mozzarella salad and wood-fired pizza. Request patio seating and you’ll be rewarded with the sounds of a large fountain and the lively rush of passersby.
